New York Mets GM Sandy Alderson pursuing Jose Valverde – MLB Update
Sources are speculating in the media that the New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson is showing great interest in relief pitcher Jose Valverde.
"I just can't tell you at this point who that will be, And I can't tell you it's going to be somebody that will displace Frankie [Francisco], either. We're looking to help the pen in a variety of ways, provide some more depth and major-league experience. I can't really get into names because I'm not sure how it will turn out," Alderson said and explained in the media about the need of good pitchers in the team.
Alderson added, “His physical condition entering spring training becomes more and more critical," "We'll see how that goes when camp opens next week."
Valverde achieved good numbers in the last season with the Detroit Tigers. He finished with 3.78 ERA along with 35 saves, 48 strikeouts and 1.25 WHIP. Overall he has also good career numbers of 3.11 ERA along with 277 saves, 650 strikeouts and 1.18 WHIP.
This offseason, the New York Mets management has been busy with some big strategic changes. They have signed good pitchers and at the same time good batters to increase the productivity of the franchise.
Lately they have also signed two good players Frank Francisco and Shaun Marcum and hoping a better new start with them.
Francisco was exceptional in the last season as he achieved 5.53 ERA along with 23 saves, 47 strikeouts and 1.61 WHIP. He is also carrying a good carer 3.92 ERA along with 72 saves, 415 strikeouts and 1.33 WHIP.
Marcum on the other hand, is also considered a good ERA of 3.70 along with 7-4 win-loss, 109 strikeouts and 1.27 WHIP. He also possesses good career ERA of 3.76 along with 57-36 win loss, 746 strikeouts and 1.22 WHIP.
Experts believe that the way Mets’ are taking initiatives to develop a good game plan for the next Major League Baseball season, is certainly a great development itself. If things went well for the Mets, they will certainly able to achieve good position in the regular and post-season.
