New York Mets’ GM Sandy Alderson shows optimism on Johan Santana’s return in Spring Training
The New York Mets’ management especially their general manager Sandy Alderson is showing great optimism for their starting pitcher Johan Santana on his potential return in the upcoming Spring Training sessions.
Santana, who underwent surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder, earlier spoke in the media and mentioned that he is not sure whether he will be able to comeback in the next training sessions or not.
However, the Mets’ GM Alderson commented recently and spread hope among Santana’s fans which are anxiously waiting for his potential return to the baseball field.
Alderson said, “I didn’t want to set off alarms the last time I talked about this, but we are talking about someone coming off a long rehab and I think, ultimately, the question is going to be answered in spring training, not beforehand. It’s going to be
terms of his ability to come back and pitch consistently on normal days. Basically, we’re looking to fill out the bench and maybe the last spot in the bullpen.”
Though, Alderson was talking and showing optimism on Santana’s comeback, he has not met Santana yet and has instead given his opinion based on Santana’s trainer Ray Ramirez’s words. Ramirez has spent almost 10 days with the veteran pitcher as he is also
very hopeful on Santana’s fast recovery.
Santana is currently considered one of the best starting pitchers in Major League Baseball having won the Cy Young Award twice along with TSN pitcher of the year, Player’s Choice Outstanding pitcher, four-time MLB All Star, a Warren Spahn Award, Luis Aparicio
Award and Gold Glove award.
All of these awards demonstrate the baseball genius in him and in the next couple of years the fans will also see great achievements from Santana’s tremendous abilities. His career 3.10 ERA has damaged many MLB teams in the past while he still possesses
great energy to outdo every top team in the League whenever he is healthy enough to return to the field. The Mets will be hoping for Santana’s early return to prepare for the 2012 regular season.
