New York Mets GM Sandy Alderson shows support for World-Wide draft – MLB News
The New York Mets' general manager Sandy Alderson is showing some great support for Major League Baseball world- wide draft that will enable plenty of recruiters outside the US to introduce talented players.
Before the introduction of this kind of new draft, international players had to suffer various difficulties to enter in the MLB’s official draft.
Currently the Major League authorities do not let the outside world take part in their draft that consists on their universities, colleges and high-schools. Sandy Alderson, who is considered one of the top men in the Mets’ franchises, was present in a meeting some two days ago where he was scheduled to meet some MLB officials on world-wide draft. As soon as he left the meeting, several reporters came out to ask questions on this recent debate of MLB world-wide draft.
Alderson was pretty confident when he spoke in the media regarding the world-wide draft. He said with total calmness and showed his full support for this potential initiative by the MLB. Many do not understand this somewhat complex world-wide draft as they are not aware of the inside details of the MLB in it.
To understand little bit about this particular draft, one should be viewing-in of Arizona Diamondbacks scouting director Tom Allison statement which he issued recently.
Allison has explained, “Certainly, putting everybody into the same pool, that would be the helpful part. You look at it, so many of the international players are unknown to many different clubs. That's where the concerns, that there is a competitive advantage from other clubs being able to have the resources to scout them and then bring them in.”
He added, “I think the advantage is it could help level the playing field. You will know who the players are. That's been our biggest step we've had to overcome, really understanding who these players are. If they had to go through some kind of process”
The MLB is the sole authority on any player’s entrance in the Major League no matter where he is from. US players may find easier to get into the draft line but for an international player, many things arise before his official free agency is accepted by the MLB.
