New York Mets’ Jose Reyes goes to disabled list again – MLB News
The New York Mets Jose Reyes’ unpredictable left hamstring put him in another trouble on Sunday as he was sent to the 15-day disabled list, triggering worries in the Mets’ camp as to what lies ahead.
Jose Reyes had to undergo an MRI on Monday, August 8 after he suffered a muscle pull in his left leg. Worryingly, the nature of the injury remains menacing for the player. It is worth mentioning here that a similar injury had held Reyes away from 12 games,
adding to the frustration of the Mets.
This latest turn of events has put the New York Mets in double jeopardy as the player of Reyes’ stature must be conspicuously present to represent the team at such a crucial time. After losing Daniel Murphy, one of the biggest hitters of the Mets, Reyes’
departure is an ominous sign.
But the general manager came forward in an attempt to dispel any such impression that the team is growingly frustrated with Reyes’ back-to-back injury, making him more of an inconvenience for the New York Mets.
“As with all players,” general manager Sandy Alderson said before tonight’s 9-8 victory over the San Diego Padres, “you’ve got to accept certain aspects of their performance, their makeup, their physical characteristics - and evaluate accordingly.”
But as the news made rounds on Sunday, the team agent Peter Greenberg had to frankly admit what the Reyes’ occasional injury actually means to the team.
"This isn't our first choice, for something to happen," agent Peter Greenberg said. "We're disappointed, obviously, as I know Jose is. We're trying to look on the bright side. It's not serious. Like Jose says, it's part of the game, the injuries..."
Reyes had given performances this season that made his critics speechless and there were news that he would soon get a big deal. But nothing of that sort has materialised lately due largely to his injuries that he could not overcome.
The game on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves resulted in the team’s loss when Reyes was removed after the fourth inning. The 6-5 defeat put the team further down in the MLB ranking, as they now reel behind with 56 wins compared to the Braves’ 66 wins.
While Reyes fitness woes don’t seem to abet, the team management tries to somehow placate the by drawing a comparison with Carl Crawford of the Boston Red Sox who has also had injuries lately despite being one of the most prohibitively expensive player of
the team.
Having been placed in the disabled list, it will be interesting to see how Reyes inches his way back to the team that certainly wants him back sooner than later.
