New York Mets’ Jose Reyes to undergo MRI exam – MLB News
Hamstring tightness forced the New York Mets’ Jose Reyes out of the game on Saturday, July 2. The tremendous talent and skill that Reyes possesses will put the Mets on edge until the results of his MRI exam are known.
Reyes, who will undergo an MRI exam Sunday morning, is sure to have the Mets and their fans in a state of unease arising from the unexpected injury of the Mets’ star.
"Every time I have an injury to my leg I have to be worried because that's a big part of my game. But hopefully it's not going to be too bad," said Reyes. "It's not too much pain. But I have to be careful. I've had so many leg problems in the past, so I don't want nothing to get worse."
Ruben Tejada has been named to replace Jose Reyes, as he had to be removed from the game as a precaution to avoid any further aggravation to the injury.
Reyes constitutes a powerful inspiration on his fans and critics alike, with the level of admiration running far deeper than anything else. He has appeared in 80 of 83 games the Mets have played this season, proving his unmatched excellence and superb fitness.
"Obviously he's a great player, but he brings more to us than hitting .350 and playing great defense. He means so much to this team," Justin Tuner said.
However, injuries are not something alien to Reyes. He and his team suffered an irreparable blow in 2009 when a hamstring injury led to the complete termination of the whole season for the player.
Having an average of .352 with 123 hits which include 15 triples, Reyes ranks second in stolen bases which stand at 30, with the total bases of 184.
His team-mate, Angel Pagan, hopes that the injury does not keep the player off the line-up for long. With the increasingly competitive games that the Mets will be playing in the days to come, Reyes’ presence is an outright necessity.
Reyes rose to prominence after he uninterruptedly led the Major Leagues with triples simultaneously in 2005 and 2006 followed by 2008’s equally astounding performance. He also led stolen bases in the National League in 2005, 06 and 07.
The Mets’ star is an unrivalled leader in runs scored, stolen bases and triples. The 28-year-old Reyes has the ability to switch the bat from left to right and throws right, having 77 home-runs.
Reyes has a total of 1243 hits in the career with the 1004 games he has played being at-bat 4266 times.
While the player resolutely stayed in the ground even after injury, the MRI exam will determine the nature of his injury on Sunday.
