New York Mets’ Lucas Duda does not get chance as pinch hitter while he suffers tight hamstring-MLB
Lucas Duda, the home-run leader for the New York Mets sat out in the last game against the Baltimore Orioles. Duda suffers tight hamstring and therefore will take some time before showing up on the plate.
Mets’ manager Terry Collins is looking forward to his complete fitness before the series against the New York Yankees.
When one looks at limited sources available for Mets in terms of drawing hits, importance of Duda in their line-up can be gauged. One of the few players who can show slugging mastery on the plate, Duda holds immense significance to overall success of their
offence.
With Jason Bay out from the season, Mets confront a hard reality.
Bay was fancied as their late-innings hope, before the start of the season.
Staying out largely, by the time he made entry, Mets’ shaky offence had stabilised.
Unfortunately, just when he began finding his feet, he was struck by another injury, setting off a troubling time for New York offence, again.
In light of this, Mets cannot afford Duda staying out for a longer time period.
Even during the series against Orioles, loopholes in their offence were visible. If it was not for shut-out games thrown by their starters, they will have ended up anywhere, from being defeated in one game to an altogether sweep.
Collins justified his decision to withhold Duda in the game, saying that he was against the idea of sending him under extreme heat. Elaborating further he stated that it may have aggravated his injury.
“When it’s 99 degrees I don’t want [Duda] to get dehydrated and have that thing cramp up,” manager Terry Collins said. “He’s able to play. I said with [today] off let’s be smart about this thing, I want him for the weekend.I just want to make sure he gets
treatment and he’s good enough to play if needed.”
Ideally, Mets will want Duda featuring in the line-up during the series against the Yankees, which starts on weekend. However, it will depend on how Duda feels by then and to what extent tight hamstring pain has worn off.
