New York Mets’ Lucas Duda removed by Terry Collins due to lack of hustle - MLB Update
Lucas Duda hits a single which the New York Mets’ manager Terry Collins thought should have been a double.
He removed him after this in an attempt to make Duda realise that he has done something wrong.
A conscious effort by Duda for running faster will have helped him in covering more bases after he struck the hit.
Frustrations for Collins have been brewing up for the last two months thanks to the series of dismal performance by his players. In light of this when something like what Duda did happens, it is highly likely that Collins will take stern measures to ensure
this will not be repeated.
The teams which fall at the bottom of their table while the conclusion of the season is around the corner invite extreme criticism. Collins currently just like other managers that have failed to lead their respective units to any substantial position in
the season is being denounced by experts on various fronts.
Regardless of the criticism and where the Mets stand at the moment, Collins is bent on making sure all the players put up their best possible effort in the field. He wants to see everyone taking the games seriously and winning them irrespective of whether
they guarantee the spot in the playoffs or not.
At the same time, he confirms that the professional ethics of his players are unquestionable. He clarifies that the decision of the removal of Duda from the field should not be construed as the doubting of his integrity.
“I don’t ever want to challenge anybody’s integrity, that is wrong. My players are professionals, and they didn’t get here without being guys that play their hearts out all the time,” Collins said.
Collins points out his responsibilities as a manager. Whenever he finds something wrong, he is supposed to become active and take appropriate actions.
“As a manager, you sit here and try to fix [things],” Collins said. “You try to figure out how to fix it and pull out all your stops. When you don’t have the answers anymore, it’s frustrating.”
He will be looking to ascertain that the players end up the season on a positive note so that they start next year with some momentum on their side.
