New York Mets’ Lucas Duda suffers wrist fracture - MLB Update
New York Mets’ right fielder Lucas Duda went through surgery following his wrist fracture. As per the reports, he will be playing in Spring Training despite the fact the injury appears to be of serious nature.
Duda holds an extreme importance as far as the Mets’ preparations for the upcoming seasons are concerned.
The Mets lack resources to do shopping in the offseason. Largely existing players are the sole source of their sustenance. They are looking forward to drastic jumps in performance of those members of the team that were below par during 2012 regular season.
Hoping that they learn from their mistakes, the Mets are aiming at increasing their win-loss record with more or less the same bunch of players on the roster. In light of this, losing Duda can be discouraging for them.
After the surgery, Duda will take some time before he can feel comfortable and ready to participate in baseball activities.
He will be handling the facture on his hand with care, making sure that he is available for the team prior to the beginning of Spring Training.
At the moment, the Mets are under negotiations with David Wright and their starting pitcher R.A. Dickey with regard to the contract extensions. They are about to offer them expensive deals in light of the fact that both these players exceeded expectations
by performing tremendously in the last season.
Renewal of contract of Dickey and Wright will further delimit the ability of the Mets to spend money on other players.
In case Duda is not fit before the beginning of 2013 regular season, the Mets will be without an option in the outfield.
They can pay attention to free agents present in the market and acquire one of them to address the possibility that Duda misses out next year.
Only way the Mets can derive optimum results from their minimum financial resources is through proper management. A blend of Minor League prospects and an addition of a few players from outside can help them in framing up a competitive unit.
With offseason underway, the Mets will be making declarations regarding new agreements. Apart from Wright and Dickey, they may be focusing on acquiring a reliable arm for their bullpen.
It will be interesting to observe as to how they use their limited financial budget in the offseason.
