New York Mets’ Lucas Duda to go through examination for left hamstring - MLB Update
Unless examination reports show positives for Lucas Duda, the right-fielder is likely to remain absent from the field for the New York Mets. For the last week or so, Duda is uncomfortable due to left hamstring and therefore is unable to give full-fledged
presence in the games.
This is a grave concern for the manager Terry Collins who needs someone in the middle of the line-up to bring hits and slam homers.
In light of the fact that Jason Bay is under the rehab process, New York cannot afford to find Duda out for a long time-period. The absence of two quality hitters for a team inevitably affects its progress. In the worst case scenario, it becomes the reason
for long-losing streaks.
As far as Duda’s offensive stats are concerned, he maintains a .246 batting average, with 12 home-runs and 44 RBIs. Therefore, one can understand for an offence which is not the best in their Division the significance that Duda can play.
Meanwhile, manager Collins is of the view that Duda will be back soon after going through a check up in New York. Furthermore, he discards the likelihood of a disabled list stint by him.
Commenting on the strategy Duda should follow on the plate, as Collins suggested that he will be better off playing the way he needs to be instead of trying to fulfil the undue expectations of the fans.
“I think he’s just trying to do what everybody expects him to do and that’s hit the ball out of the ballpark,” Collins said. “I told him the other day, ‘Just be a good hitter. You’re a good hitter, be a good hitter and stay who you are.’”
He added, “Lucas Duda right now is trying to hit balls in the seats, because that is what people expect him to do instead of just being the true, good hitter that he’s proved he can be.”
Meanwhile, as reports come from the doctors, the manager will be in a better position to state the timeline of his comeback.
In the meantime, the manager will look forward to an entry in the line-up by Bay.
Presence of Duda and Bay at the earliest is going to be an ideal scenario for the Mets’ offence.
