New York Mets’ Matt Harvey shows credentials for becoming a future ace - MLB Update
Ever since Matt Harvey has made his Major League debut irrespective of the number of wins recorded by him what has been his hallmark is the speed with which he strikes-out batters.
During the game against the Colorado Rockies while the New York Mets faced defeat he was able to strike-out a reasonable number of batters. The fact his role toward the defeat was minimal and helped him avoid the loss to earn a no-decision game.
So far Harvey has struck-out 43, which is an impressive number in light of the fact that he has not played many games as yet in the season. If he continues retiring batters at the same rate, he can end up the season with an incredible performance and can
convince the experts that he will be an ace for the team next year.
Unfortunately Harvey has not received enough run support in the season. Therefore, it is not entirely wrong that if the Mets’ batters had posted reasonable number of runs on the scoreboard his win-loss record will be far better.
Succeeding in directing the attention of the fans toward him despite having little support from the offence tells something about the kind of credentials he boasts. Making the fans realise that he holds something to watch and feel great about, Harvey is
about to open the debate about the possible replacement of Johan Santana.
Santana’s expedition in the season has almost come to an end after the MRI examination revealed inflammation in his lower back. Therefore, New York needs someone on the rotation who can keep them afloat against the opponents. In this context, Harvey can
play an important role.
Meanwhile, Harvey is not satisfied with his performance and wants to throw as many innings as he can in the upcoming games. He is worried about the runs that he is giving up.
“In a game like this, obviously I want to go seven, eight innings,” said Harvey. “Looking at my pitch count creeping up around 100 [102] through six innings, is not ideal.... I’m kind of beating myself up on it because I wasn’t very economical in pitching
as I was before.”
Harvey will be looking to keep the momentum going and deliver tremendous performances in the remaining games that he is going to start in the season.
