New York Mets Noah Syndergaard regrets anti-g*y statement-MLB Update
The top pitching prospect, Noah Syndergaard, who was acquired by the New York Mets through a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday, has apologised for being insensitive on Twitter.
He posted an anti-g*y tweet, which did not shed a positive light on his first introduction as the Mets.
For a player to make such an impression right after joining a new organisation is not an ideal beginning. Syndergaard will require some work now before the fans start thinking positively about him.
Syndergaard has been obtained by the Mets in exchange for R.A Dickey. He is supposed to strengthen their pitching department after they struggled in the last season.
An absence of Dickey has mounted their needs with regard to having quality starting pitchers.
Syndergaard has an ideal opportunity to become an everyday major leaguer in the upcoming season.
If he continues with his excellent run of form and performs well in the minor league, he can secure a place in the Mets’ rotation.
The Mets already lack options for their 2013 season expedition.
For example, Johan Santana and Dillon Gee were injury prone during the last season as they missed a great number of games.
It means they cannot be considered the kind of pitchers that will play through the season at the moment.
Against this backdrop, Syndergaard has every reason to fancy being an active player in the upcoming season for New York.
As far as his anti-g*y remarks are concerned, Syndergaard has clarified that he was talking to his friend.
While making fun with him, he could not produce a better joke. Indeed, insinuation to g**s was his failed attempt to create humour, as he has admitted himself.
"I had a mishap on Twitter that was brought to my attention this morning,” Syndergaard said. “I apologize for anything that was said. My buddy and I were having some fun and it was a poor attempt at humor. I’m sorry for what I said. I hope I didn’t offend
anyone. I’m also sorry my first introduction as a New York Met had to be like this.’’
Syndergaard will look to be more sensitive next time while being present in a public forum.
