New York Mets’ R.A. Dickey bags Outstanding Pitcher honours from National League-MLB Update
Starting pitcher for New York Mets, R.A. Dickey claims annual Players Choice Award from National League. His name was announced by the MLB Players Association which stated that he beats his competitors for the award namely Johnny Cueto and Gio Gonzalez after
earning a greater number of votes.
The honour is a great development for Dickey in light of the fact that he is a strong contender for winning the Cy Young Award this year.
The story of Dickey is the most peculiar one of all the starting pitchers present in the current Major League Baseball.
He had a humble beginning of his career, spending most of his time in the Minors owing to the fact that he did not have the credentials to perform consistently at the Major League level.
He was snubbed by some organisations on a number of occasions by being withdrawn from the season and sent to the Minors. He lacked diversity in his repertoire which made him prone to leaking runs and causing defeats in the matches.
In the 2012 season, he showed amazing improvements. Such a drastic jump in the performance was surprising for the fans and the experts alike.
He has been so effective at the mound that he is about to clinch the most coveted Award in MLB.
As far as Dickey is concerned, he has tried to assume indifference with regard to the honour. Although he loves to win it, he is not extremely conscious about it.
"The award would obviously be nice," Dickey said. "That would be silly to say that it wouldn't be fantastic. But at the same time, you've got to be able to lay your head on your pillow, whether you've won it or not, and know that you've done your best. And
I can do that.”
Dickey vies with Gonzalez who is from the Washington Nationals for the honour of Cy Young Award. The name of the winner will be revealed on November 14.
It will be interesting to see as to who clinches this glory at the end of the day.
Mets’ fans will be hoping that Dickey claims it and bring some pride for their club as a result.
