New York Mets’ R.A. Dickey intends to escape the mania of possible Cy Young Award - MLB Update
R.A. Dickey is all set to go through the hype which will be preceded by the announcement of the name of the pitcher for the Cy Young Award. However, Dickey prefers to stay aloof and focus on keeping his momentum afloat. He does not want to let the mania
of potentially earning the Cy Young Award take a toll on his mind.
Dickey is among the leading candidates that are likely to earn this landmark achievement. As a starter, he has been winning games and striking-out batters consistently in the season for the New York Mets.
While the Mets as a team have struggled as is evident from their decaying winning percentage, Dickey has trodden upon a different path. He has thrown complete games and helped the team get rid of the losing streaks on number of occasions.
As Dickey continues his run of impeccable outings on the mound in the season, it is no surprise that he is being put forward as the most logical choice for the Cy Young Award.
The loss that he suffered on Wednesday apart, the dominance with which he retired line-ups in the season is hard to ignore. Therefore, the voters will certainly rate Dickey highly as they elect a pitcher for the Cy Young Award
Meanwhile, Dickey is h**l-bent to unleash all his energies for throwing quality innings and winning as many games as he can.
“I try not to get too big picture,” Dickey said. “I try to really kind of reduce it down to trying to invest in the moment as much as possible. And that’s how I’ve done it all year.”
When inquired about whether he is among the favourites for the Cy Young Award, Dickey gave an indifferent response.
Meanwhile, Mets’ manager Terry Collins says that Dickey has been a regular performer for the team and therefore if he can continue throwing quality innings he will be among the top candidates for the award.
“I think R.A. has proved all year he’s been so consistent,” Collins said. “If he finishes as strong as he started, he’s got to be in the heavy mix.”
Dickey will to take the loss he faced on Wednesday as an exception and keep winning games as the season progresses.
