New York Mets’ R. A. Dickey maintains indifference toward winning Cy Young Award - MLB Update
Regardless of whether R.A. Dickey wins the Cy Young Award or not, he is content with the fact that he did his best and tried to deliver splendours in every game he came to throw for the New York Mets.
Dickey’s consistent performances on the mound in the regular season are one of the reasons why the Mets managed reasonable number of wins in the beginning.
As expectations were not high from the Mets before they entered into the season, they can take a lot of encouragement from the fact that they were not entirely mediocre.
In-fact they headed to winning the Wild Card spot from the beginning before they slowed down and started losing matches.
Dickey spearheaded the Mets’ pitching department. Using his knucklers, he on a number of occasions brought wins when the Mets were struggling.
He helped New York escape the losing streaks and keep their regular season expedition smooth.
While he put up the best possible performances, the Mets could not make anything substantial out of his dominant shows.
Overall weaknesses prevalent in the Mets did not allow them to capitalise on Dickey’s series of solid performances as starter.
Dickey is part of the debate about who is going to clinch the Cy Young Award this year from the National League. He, along with the Washington Nationals’ Gio Gonzalez is a strong contender for the Award.
If he goes on to earn the honour, it will bring cheers on the disgruntled Mets’ fans. At-least, this will give them something to be proud of.
“Look, the [Cy Young] award obviously would be nice. It would be silly to say that it wouldn’t be fantastic. At the same time, you’ve got to be able to lay your head on your pillow -- whether you’ve won it or not -- and know that you’ve done your best. And
I can do that. A 20-win season is also very difficult to get, and thankfully we’ve been able to do that,” said R.A. Dickey.
Dickey is extremely satisfied with the way he contributed toward the success of the Mets.
Fans will be keeping an eye on reports relating to the Award and will be hoping to see Dickey winning it.
