New York Mets’ R.A. Dickey suffers torn abdominal muscle - MLB Update
During the game on Tuesday, the fact R.A. Dickey endures a torn abdominal muscle has come to light. It has been reported that he struggled with this issue throughout the season but somehow he was able to carry on.
On a number of occasions, he was so discomforted by the pain that he was about to stay out and miss matches. Dickey was conscious of the fact that he needed surgery for complete rehabilitation.
Dickey has an excellent season so far. His win-loss record easily makes him a top-contender for the CY Young Award.
The reports that he was not completely fit reveal as to how effective he can be even with pain.
He has been using knucklers to topple the most experienced of the batters and to earn wins on a regular basis.
In his entire career, he has never looked as formidable for the batters as he has been in the current season.
Mets can imagine that once Dickey recovers and appears in the next season, he will be even more effective.
The reason why the issue of his torn abdominal muscle surfaced on Tuesday was an unprecedented level of the intensity of the pain that arose in his body. While previously it was bearable, on Tuesday Dickey feared that he may be unable to continue throwing.
"I'm not going to pretend to know what happened inside there, but it was much more significant than I have experienced in the past," Dickey said. "Whether that is scar tissue coming loose or the tear elongating, it's total speculation. I have no idea. But
because we have a surgery already scheduled for the 18th in the same area, it's going to get fixed then anyway.”
Talking about how he lived through the season with it, he has stated that he always tried to evade it and keep it from affecting his throws.
"I was on my knees about it many times, hoping that it was not going to get more significant than it was," Dickey said.
Dickey will be going through surgery on October 18.
He will be looking to get rid of the tear in abdominal and start playing baseball soon. It will be interesting to see as to how he throws in the next season.
