New York Mets’ Terry Collins confident Dillon Gee will stay in rotation next year – MLB News
Out of the rotation due to injury right now, Dillon Gee has grown conscious about his spot on the New York Mets’ rotation next year.
In light of the fact the Mets have recalled pitchers from the Minor League and as they perform reasonably well, his concerns are legitimate. However he has been consoled apparently now with the reiteration by manager Terry Collins who says Gee remains the
preferred option on rotation for next season.
Collins has stated if Gee goes through surgery and fixes all the issues prior to the beginning of the next season, there is hardly any reason which can force him to change his plan toward the hurler. Furthermore, Collins has heaped praise on Gee showing
accreditation of the performances that he put up in number of games in the season.
"He’s pitched too well here," Collins said. "If his arm’s fine, if his velocity’s back after the surgery and stuff, there’s no reason why Dillon Gee should need to fight for a spot. He’s pitched way too well here."
While Collins has expressed his confidence in Gee, the ground realities may be working against the claim of the manager.
With Matt Harvey back in the Majors and Zack Wheeler not too far away from playing at the big stage, it will be extremely difficult for Gee to secure his place. Furthermore, the likes of Johan Santana, R.A. Dickey and Jonathon Niese are already locked in
for next year.
Gee utters his injury gave way to an opportunity for other players.
"You know that injuries open doors for other people. That’s pretty much how I got here. It concerns you a little bit, but at the same time, there’s nothing you can do. … If that’s the way it’s going to be, that’s the way it’s going to be," Gee said.
Gee will be trying to get his rhythm and velocity back in order to convince the management of his ability to become a reliable starter for the team. It will be interesting to see whether he earns the spot on rotation next year or not.
