New York Mets’ Terry Collins included in Tony La Russa’s coaching staff for All-Star Game - MLB
All-Star game on July 10 at Kansas City will feature Terry Collins as part of the coaching crew under Tony La Russa for National League. Collins becomes the first New York Mets being announced for the All-Star Game.
Honour being showered at him on Wednesday spelled a shocker on Collins, who was totally taken aback.
With this, his ability to draw best results out of minimum resources has been acknowledged. He has been leading the Mets since 2011 regular season and has brought them nearest to landmarks, despite having little resources.
Last season when expectations from the club floored and they were written off by experts in their calculations, Collins did not relent and kept the club on surface. In an inspirational display of management, he gelled together the tattered side and made
them a formidable force.
Similarly, when 2012 regular season began, the Mets were plagued by financial crisis, with most of their players performing way below the potential. Unsurprisingly, doom was on the cards.
Then, again Collins defied predictions. Currently, he proudly leads his side to an impressive 35-29 win-loss record so far.
La Russa heaps praise on Collins and acknowledges the kind of contribution he has made to the Mets in the last two years. He hails the decision and terms Collins a right choice for the job. Resilience he possesses as a manager makes him an ideal person to
have during the match.
“I’ve known and respected him for years. The job he (did) last year — nobody had more adversity than that — (where) he kept the club competing,” La Russa said. “And then he’s doing it again this year. You need to recognize when somebody is handling a ballclub
and day-in day-out there’s no difference in how they compete. If the stars are hurt they still keep competing and he keeps getting contributions. It’s a well-deserved honor.”
Another player namely R.A Dickey who also belongs to the Mets is one of the contenders for becoming an All-Star player. Therefore, things are going well for the Mets at the moment.
While Collins will be jubilant over being honoured, bigger task for him is to take the Mets to substantial position in the season.
