New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays almost complete trade agreement involving R.A Dickey-MLB Update
As per the reports, the trade deal between the New York Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays has almost been finalised.
The agreement involves exchanges of prospects from both the sides. The Mets have acquired two catchers along with a pitcher and another player. On the other hand, the Blue Jays’ biggest pick in the trade is R.A Dickey.
The agreement has not been announced officially as yet. However, as soon as Dickey agrees to a contract extension with Toronto, the deal will be formally declared.
The Mets have allowed some time to Dickey and the Blue Jays so that they can decide terms and conditions of their new contract. If they fail to strike a deal within the stated timeframe, the trade may not take place.
Earlier it was reported Dickey wants a three-year worth $31 million deal. The Blue Jays will be mindful of his asking price.
In order to make sure Dickey joins their organisation, they will be looking to accept what he is hoping for.
This offseason has seen the Blue Jays involved in some high profile trades, which shows they are trying to achieve something substantial during the upcoming season.
It seems their management is eyeing on World Series Championship.
The Blue Jays could not perform exceptionally well during 2012 as they disappointed fans immensely. They cannot afford to repeat such a dismal show again.
They have considered acquisitions of the star players as the best way to ascertain that they will improve next year.
Other than the Mets, the Miami Marlins were their trading partner earlier in the offseason.
Players that were the backbone of the Marlins were obtained by Toronto. For example, Jose Reyes, who was hired from free agency by the Marlins before the beginning of the 2012 season, joined their organisation after the trade.
If Dickey also becomes a part of the Blue Jays, their chances to be successful during the next season will increase manifold.
Certainly, they will be a force to reckon with and that defeating them during the season will be an uphill task for the oppositions.
Only the time will tell as to what extent trade deals carried out by them help their cause for the 2013 Major League season.
