New York Mets approach Carl Pavano, according to sources-MLB Update
As per the reports, the New York Mets are trying to sign veteran starting pitcher, Carl Pavano from free agency.
After the trade of R.A Dickey, they have been left with little options, as far as their pitching department is concerned.
Indeed, the need for a quality starting pitcher is pressing for the New York at the moment.
It is uncertain whether Pavano will be ready to accept the Mets' offer, after he declined moving to the New York Yankees a couple of years ago.
He did not accept offer of the Yankees, because he had a terrible time when he played for them in the past.
The fact of the matter is New York is the place that Pavano is highly apprehensive about, for the reason mentioned above.
Against this backdrop, it is hard to see the Mets making a substantial headway concerning their attempt to sign him.
Apart from Pavano, the Mets will be paying heed to other options in the market.
Any starting hurler that has a low price tag on him, with an experience of a reasonable number of seasons, will most probably be acceptable for them.
Pavano can easily match the criteria of the Mets, given the fact he is inexpensive.
As he struggled immensely during the last season, his expectations with regard to the money value of the new contract will be low.
Pavano suffered with a range of injuries during the 2012 season. That became the reason why he registered such a dismal ERA.
By many accounts, he is a risky option for the Mets. For example, at the age of 36, he cannot be expected to lead the rotation and offset impact of the absence of Dickey.
Unlike Dickey who could perform well even while being at 38, he is not the knuckleballer.
Exclusion of Dickey from the team has created a list of new tasks that are to be performed by the Mets before the beginning of the 2013 season.
They cannot sit idly until they have found replacement of him and the couple of outfielders.
Fans will be hoping that the Mets hire new players and streamline issues with the roster so that they could rebound from the poor performance of the 2012 season in 2013.
