New York Mets approached by Kansas City Royals for trade involving R.A. Dickey-MLB Update
As the offseason progresses ahead, it is becoming increasingly clear that chances for offering a contract extension to R.A. Dickey by New York Mets are little.
The delay in making any progress with regard to a contract renewal of Dickey has led other organisations to seek him through trade.
According to the reports, the Kansas City Royals have contacted the Mets for obtaining Dickey in exchange for prospects.
Further information has not surfaced yet in this regard. The Royals, at the moment, need a starting pitcher that can spearhead their rotation but the shortage of money is making it difficult for them to buy someone from the free agent market.
Only option they can resort to at this situation is sacrificing some of their prospects to an organisation in order to get a star pitcher.
The Mets desperately need an outfielder and a catcher right now. Similar to the Royals, they cannot afford signing free agents. Thus, both organisations can find it easy to settle on something which is in their best interest.
Royals’ General Manager, Dayton Moore has emphasised on the need to remove loop-holes in the rotation.
"Our rotation is going to better, but we're still looking for the opportunity to improve on what we've done,'' Dayton Moore said.
If Dickey is traded to Kansas City, he will be their ace for the next season. He can precisely fulfil the role that officials of the Royals want someone to carry out for them.
Only problem in having Dickey for Kansas City can be his age and the possibility that he declines down the line.
Dickey was a standout performer for the Mets during the 2012 season. It is uncertain whether he will replicate the same performance in the upcoming season.
Factoring his age into it, one can doubt he will produce such shows again that made him Cy Young Award winner from the National League in the last season.
Officials of the Royals will be mindful of this as they negotiate with the Mets for his acquisition.
Regardless of where Dickey goes next year, he does not want to part ways with his current organisation.
Since conclusion of the season, he time-and-again repeated his desire to play for New York next year.
It will be interesting to see how the Mets respond to the interest shown by the Royals in Dickey.
