New York Mets beat Houston Astros 2-1 as Ike Davis strikes two home runs - MLB Update

The first baseman Ike Davis leads the New York Mets to a 2-1 win against the Houston Astros on August 26, 2012 at Citi Field, New York in the last game of the three match series.
In a low scoring game the Mets ended up as the winner thanks to the timely home-run by Davis. First three innings were scoreless before the first score of the game was added in the fourth. From there onward the Mets had to see their pitchers throw scoreless
innings in order to record a victory.
To a great extent they were successful in this regard as before the start of the ninth the Astros were not allowed to post even a single run on the score-board.
However, in the last inning New York gave up one run and in turn permitted Astros to bounce back. With the score tied, the game was about to enter into additional innings.
If it was not for the immediate reply by the Mets in the bottom of the ninth with a home-run, Astros may have shown resistance in the additional innings and may have even won the match.
Jeremy Hefner threw eight innings as starter for the Mets. While he struck-out seven, he yielded one run and leaked five hits. He made it difficult for the batters to score runs and blow the lead.
Meanwhile, Mets’ manager Terry Collins believes Lucas Duda tried valiantly to catch the ball and attempt to disallow the base-runner to reach.
"I thought he looked great out there. He looks comfortable," Collins said. "As far as that ball goes, he ran a long way for that ball. And any time you dive toward that wall, there's issues. I thought he did fine. Of course, he made a great throw, too."
Davis describes the moments when he struck the second home-run of the match which proved decisive.
"I thought I hit it a little better than I did. Outfielder kind of deked me a little bit," Davis said. "Thought I'd look like a fool because I didn't run out of the box. ... First one I got pretty good."
The series has turned out to be a sigh of relief for New York as they managed to get a decent win. They will be looking to carry the momentum forward in their next series.
