New York Mets beat Miami Marlins 6-1 as R.A. Dickey throws complete game - MLB Update
Starter R.A. Dickey strikes-out 10 while throwing a complete game as he helps the New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 6-1 at Citi Field, New York on August 9, 2012 in the third game of the three match series.
Finally the Mets embraced a victory after being routed in the last couple of games. Earlier, the decline was two-pronged, both their offence and the pitchers were struggling. Their starters were leaking runs, which would later make it extremely difficult
for the offence to bring the team back into the game.
However, on Thursday, at the back of nine quality innings by the starter Dickey, their offence rallied for six runs in the game and recorded an easy victory for the team.
The nine innings that Dickey pitched resulted in five hits and one earned run.
Offensively, New York relied on their centre fielder Andres Torres. He struck three hits in three at-bats, while giving way to three RBIs. Apart from him, their catcher Josh Thole hammered two hits and brought two RBIs in the game.
As far as the Marlins were concerned, their most successful hitter over the last couple of weeks the shortstop Jose Reyes was hitless on Thursday. Furthermore, their pitchers were not impressive as the starter Josh Johnson yielded eight hits while giving
up three runs.
Meanwhile, Dickey has commented on the likely three games rest strategy that the management may follow toward him. However, as New York’s manager Terry Collins has ruled out such a possibility, Dickey will keep starting games as per the schedule now.
"I would not want to be on three days' rest purely to win games," Dickey said. "If we got a shot, I'm willing to do it."
Collins has expressed the hope to watch the rest of the starters on the rotation following the way Dickey is finishing the games.
"He's got the feel for it back, again," Collins said. "All I can tell you is I hope the next eight starts are like this one."
Ending the series with a victory is always good for the club for upcoming games. Therefore, the Mets will be looking to carry the momentum forward and put up splendid performances ahead.
