New York Mets beat St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 in Grapefruit League encounter - MLB Update
Third baseman, David Wright, makes a splendid play on the field and gets one hit in two at-bats as his club New York Mets win 6-3 over St. Louis Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida on March 26, 2012 during their Grapefruit League encounter.
Game started off with Mets trailing by two runs in first. Until six innings, Mets recorded no run and at one stage it appeared that they will meet same fate as they have been experiencing so far in most of their games. However in the seventh, Mets stood
up all of a sudden and in just one inning, posted five runs, going past Cardinals’ lead.
Earlier reports stating comeback of Wright sent new hopes to Mets, a side struggling in many areas of their play. Amazingly enough, as he played today’s game he actually proved what potential he has for his club.
Not just with his composure on plate, but also the way he held his position on third base, catching hopper and sending ball precisely to first to get out, impressed everybody in the dug-out.
"It was an action-filled day over there," Wright said. "I got a chance to dive around a little bit and run the bases a little bit, so that's a good thing."
Apart from him, shortstop Ruben Tejada faced four at-bats and while hitting once he added two RBIs.
First baseman Justin Turner was a most successful batter for Mets as he not only contributed one RBI, but also completed two runs. The fact he managed two hits on four at-bats shows his ability to read pitches precisely.
Mets’ starter, Johan Santana, went through arguably his best time on the mound in Spring Training. Throwing five innings, he pulled off five strike-outs while giving up two runs.
In last many games Mets were dull and down, with both batters and pitchers doing poorly. Massive number of their defeats went on to put them at lowest position on Grapefruit League table. Along with defeats injuries were surfacing, hampering their progress.
However as they have gotten a much needed victory now, they will look to take their momentum to pinnacle.
