New York Mets blank Baltimore Orioles 5-0 as R.A Dickey throws another one-hit game - MLB Update
Starter R.A Dickey follows up from the last match with another complete performance, helping the New York Mets win 5-0 against the Baltimore Orioles on June 18, 2012, at Citi Field, New York, NY in first game of the three match series.
Finally Mets resume a winning course after being dispelled with poor performances and strong opponents confounding their offence.
Dickey heads to perfection. Every game in which he is starting is turning out to be nightmarish for the batters. Last time when Dickey started for the Mets, a one-hit complete game came about.
One can expect from a player who has put up such a splendid show in the last game that complacency takes over and in turn his performance getting badly affected. For Dickey, however unleashing the best in every encounter is more important than carrying previous
game glory in mind.
In a demonstration of looking like a true All-Star Game starter, Dickey finished nine innings on Monday and was scoreless.
Mets’ Manager Terry Collins jokingly considered the idea of appealing to Major League Baseball again for getting a no-hitter, after they failed to get desired verdict from the organisation last time.
"Do I have a chance to appeal that base hit? Did anybody dive for that ball? I got a bad view," Terry Collins said.
Dickey explained his thoughts after faring such a tremendous show on the mound.
"Yeah, it's surreal," Dickey said. "You almost get emotional out there, especially that last hitter. You hear everybody, like one big heartbeat beating. That's the best way I could explain it."
First baseman Ike Davis finally delivers splendor, striking a grand slam, he went 1-for-3.
Davis is going through a forgettable season so far. Occasional outbursts on plate apart, his batting average is far from what was envisaged from him before the season.
He will be pleased that he has started making right connections. He will look to achieve consistency from now onward and will make sure he becomes reliable hitter during a middle part of the game.
Hungry for building lengthy winning streaks, Mets finally stand poised to clinch the series victory. They will be eyeing sweep and thus will be looking to go all-out to win the next two games.
