New York Mets brush aside Atlanta Braves 8-2 – MLB Spring Training
New York Mets brushed aside Atlanta Braves 8-2 at the Champion Stadium in Kissimmee, Florida on Monday, April 2 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Tim Hudson, who put up solid numbers last season with 16-10 record and 3.22 ERA, had a great time on the mound as he allowed just one hit over two innings pitched. In a post game interview, Hudson stated that he wanted to pitch more innings but Braves’ manager
Fredi Gonzalez did not want to rush him. The starter pitched for the first time since his offseason back surgery.
"We are not going to rush him," Gonzalez said. "We can hang on until he's ready."
According to sources, Hudson is likely to start his season at the minor league level and he will be looking to return to MLB in early May 2012. Good news for the Braves is that Hudson did not show any signs of pain and he looked close to being ready for
the upcoming regular season. The 36 year old will be looking to make the most of on-hand opportunities in Braves’ minor league.
"I felt perfectly normal out there," Hudson said. "I threw my cutter, my curve, my split. I needed a little more time during warm ups to get going, but I felt fine. I threw everything I had. No pain."
"It's different, but it feels fine," Hudson said. "By the time I get back I know I might be a little nervous, but I am not concerned."
The Mets have not looked on top of their game since the start of 2012 Spring Training. Struggling to execute their game plan, the Mets have managed to win only eight out of their 27 spring games so far.
Dominating the Braves in almost all aspects of the game, the Mets will be very pleased with the way they conducted themselves to gain some sort winning momentum before the Opening Day. If the Mets can perform in a similar fashion in the upcoming regular
season, they will surely end the season with a better win-loss record. It will be interesting to see if the Mets learn their lessons to bounce back strongly.
