New York Mets call up Matt Harvey to Major League for start on Thursday - MLB Update
Finally, the New York Mets’ management is unable to keep the Minor League prospect, starting pitcher Matt Harvey from earning a Major League call. A declaration has been made in this regard, according to which Harvey will start on Thursday against the the Arizona
Diamondbacks. He will be heading fast to New York right now for joining the club and for going through work-outs before starting in his first game.
Earlier when the injuries occurred and some of the pitchers were placed on the disabled list, Mets' officials maintained a view that they will not resort to an option of bringing Harvey into the Majors in order to offset the damage. They believed that it
will amount to premature entry by a pitcher who has yet to develop his skills at the Major League level.
However, now as their ace Johan Santana is languishing on disabled list due to an ankle injury, the management has been left with no other option but filling the rotation with a Minor League prospect.
What must have encouraged for this decision more is the fact that other pitchers on the Mets' rotation are not performing well.
Their starting pitcher, Chris Young has leaked runs ever since he has played the first game of the season. Similarly, Jon Niese has been unimpressive by-and-large on the mound as he has not recorded great number of wins for the team.
In this connection, Harvey is being considered for keeping the form that he maintained in the Minor League games afloat at the Major League level and counter balance the effect of poor performances by the rest of the pitchers.
Meanwhile, the manager Terry Collins has talked of the hype that is being made of a Major League debut by Harvey.
"You got to throw those starts out. Part of the whole thing is being here in New York where everything is a story," Collins said. "The Matt Harveys become the story. He's not naive enough to know people are there, people are talking about it in Buffalo.
You're the guy. You're going to the next guy. Well, he may be or he may not be. As a young guy trying to get to the big leagues you certainly understand why that focus is going in different directions right now."
By the time Harvey throws his first pitch in the Majors, it will be a great moment to watch for the fans that have been waiting for his debut. It will be interesting to see how he can help the club win games from now onward.
