New York Mets can still sign Jose Valverde – MLB Update
Sources are speculating in the media that the New York Mets are still interested in free agent Jose Valverde. Earlier news were coming that the Mets now focusing to add some more fire power in the batting lineup instead of having another closer in the roster.
However, now, according to some inside Major League and Mets’ sources are quite sure that New York side is serious to sign Valverde.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has also said recently for Valverde, "I just can't tell you at this point who that will be, And I can't tell you it's going to be somebody that will displace Frankie [Francisco], either. We're looking to help the pen in a variety of ways, provide some more depth and major-league experience. I can't really get into names because I'm not sure how it will turn out."
Alderson added with more confidence and detail, "His physical condition entering spring training becomes more and more critical, We'll see how that goes when camp opens next week."
Valverde last played for the Detroit Tigers in the 2012 Major League Baseball season. He did very well and achieved consistent numbers of 3.78 ERA along with 35 saves, 48 strikeouts and 1.25 WHIP.
Not only in the last Major League Baseball season, he is also carrying a good career ERA of 3.11 along with 277 saves, 650 strikeouts and 1.18 WHIP.
Looking at his last season’s average and career tremendous stats, experts believe that Valverde will certainly get a new team.
Many teams including New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates and Minnesota Twins are the foremost franchises which have showed interest in Valverde but still his agent is waiting for the right opportunity.
Coming onto the Mets and their potential efforts to sign Valverde, the Mets still have many good relief pitchers in the bullpen.
From Brandon Lyon to Jenrry Mejia, the Mets are going confident into the new season. Lyon and Mejia both are good players and will try their best to lead the Mets with consistent results.
