New York Mets clobber Detroit Tigers by 14-3: MLB Update
New York Mets’ batters were on top throughout the game as they played beautifully and hit scoring shots with continuous intervals in the Mets’ 14-3 victory against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park, Detroit, on June 28.
During the first inning of the game, the Mets got a 2-0 lead. Daniel Murphy took a double to the deep centre-field and Jose Reyes put the first run. The second run was taken by Murphy, when Angel Pagan hit a double-run shot towards the right-field.
The batters were unable to contribute even a single run during the second and third inning as they did not play some tricky shots. At the bottom of the third inning, Austin Jackson was grounded out to second base and Ryan Raburn flied out to right field.
Fourth inning totally went for the Mets, as the batters opened their blade and posted seven runs on the score-board to take a 9-0 lead. Josh Thole homered (371 feet) to the right-field and Jason Bay struck a solo homer (392 feet) towards left-field, while
the rest of five runs were taken by Willie Harris, Reyes, Carlos Beltran,  Murphy and Pagan to end the seven-run campaign during the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning, the Mets exploded four runs while the Tigers scored their initial two runs to move their score-cards 13-2. Beltran hit a home-run (363 feet) to the left-field, while Justin Turner, Reyes and Harris each singled to advance the Mets’ lead.
On the other side, Jackson struck a one-run homer (395 feet) to left-centre field and Raburn put the second run.
In the sixth inning, the pitchers tossed some amazing pitches and got the batters out on their curveballs. The Mets’ starter, R.A. Dickey, threw seven innings with an ERA of 3.77 and gave away just three runs on 10 hits, including three earned runs. He was
able to strike-out six batters and give away three walks on his 113 pitches.
The Tigers added one run in the seventh inning to cut their deficit 13-3, when Andy Dirks hit a solo homer (350 feet) towards right-field. In the eighth inning, the Mets raised their lead 14-3 when Turner drove a single-run shot off centre-field and Pagan
scored the last run.
