New York Mets close to offering R.A. Dickey a lucrative deal – MLB Update
Sources claim that the New York Mets are very close to offer a potential long term deal to Cy Young winner starting pitcher R.A. Dickey.
Though these are still speculations but these sources also say that they have some inside information and according to that information, the Mets have prepared a two year extension contract.
This is also not confirmed that whether Dickey will like to consider this offer or not as he has also been approached by several-other top Major League teams with lucrative contracts.
“It’s still very early, But between Thanksgiving and the winter meetings (Dec. 3-6) — and (during) the winter meetings themselves — we need to have a little more clarity than we have now,” New York's general manager Sandy Alderson said about Dickey.
The fact is that Dickey’s pitching is a rare specialty and he knows how to handle his knuckleballs. After winning the Cy Young Award, the teams are giving great consideration to sign him for future seasons.
He played wonderfully with the Mets in this recent past season and earned great appreciation.
Recently, Wilbur Forrester Wood, Jr., who is a former professional baseball pitcher and a knuckleball specialist, told the media on Dickey’s achievement in the league with great detail, “I’m very happy for Dickey, I really am, But did I think he would get it? I really didn’t, if you want to know the truth, because no one else has done it. I mean, he had all the numbers, don’t get me wrong, and he deserved every bit of it. But you know, there’s been a way of people saying, ‘Ah, he throws a freak pitch.”
Dickey played with enormous consistency and achieved 2.73 ERA along with 20-6 win-loss, 230 strike-outs and 1.05 WHIP with the Mets in 2012 season.
He is a nine-year veteran in Major League and possesses some vast experience with career 3.98 ERA along with 61-56 win-loss, 739 strike-outs and 1.33 WHIP.
Experts believe with the amount of experience Dickey has and the level of excellence his pitching has reached, he will be getting a new deal with some of the top teams of Major League Baseball.
