New York Mets could start extension talks with David Wright as early as next week, say sources

According to some recent news, there is a possibility that the New York Mets are preparing potential contract extension talks with third baseman David Wright.
Mets’ organisation understands that the team needs some veteran players at the moment if they want to be successful in the next Major League Baseball season. Mets’ performed poorly in 2012 MLB season. They could not play well and lost too many games early.
To improve their next season’s chances, the Mets want David Wright in the organisation for next couple of years. David Wright, having years of big league experience, possesses some extraordinary skills and is considered one of the best players in the league.
He finished the 2012 season on high note by achieving .306 hitting average along with 21 homers, 93 RBIs and .391 OBP. While his career .301 hitting average, along with 204 home-runs, 818 RBIs and .381 OBP also makes him one of the best role players in the league, especially in the Mets’ franchise.
Since starting his career in 2004 Wright has been playing in the Mets. A six-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove award winner and two-time Silver Slugger award winner, Wright is a special player and the Mets understand his importance.
This was the last year of Wright’s previous contract with the Mets while now sources are speculating in the media that New York side is engaging Wright and his agent to settle a new deal which could go up to $125 million.
Mets' general manager Sandy Alderson has also recently explained in the media that the top management will be taking some huge steps this coming winter. He indirectly indicated that ace pitcher R.A. Dickey and David Wright are the foremost players who are under consideration for long term contracts.
Mets are currently facing extreme financial flux and if they could not re-sign Dickey and Wright, they have to sign potential replacements for them.
Recently some experts have also suggested to Mets’ top management that they still have a fair chance to trade one of these players to generate finances which will ultimately help them face many lingering financial issues within the franchise.
