New York Mets could trade R.A. Dickey – MLB News
New York Mets currently seemed confused over their star starter R.A. Dickey’s fresh contract.
As a potential free agent in the Major League market, the nine-year MLB veteran knows his worth and his agent is influencing his client’s of that worth.
Many teams want Dickey and not just with short-term contract but a hefty long term contract might be given to him from a leading franchise in Major League Baseball.
Though Dickey, according to his previous contract clauses has some protection as his trade cannot be come about without his consent but sources do claim that the Mets' franchise currently is not in a position to afford him and might go for a possible trade in coming weeks.
Some say that Dickey and his agent are asking big cash and the Mets, who played poorly in the past season, are in financial trouble.
“I think there is a little bit more flexibility, What will it come from? The Jason Bay settlement. A variety of other possible sources of that flexibility. I don't know exactly to what extent we'll have flexibility, but we'll have a little at least,” Mets' GM Sandy Alderson said Friday, in the general managers' meetings.
"It has always been a possibility," Alderson said of a Dickey trade. "That's something that has been understood by R.A., by his agent, by us. That doesn't mean it s a preferred avenue.”
Dickey finished this Major League Baseball season with 2.73 ERA along with 20-6 win-loss, 230 strike-outs and 1.05 WHIP.
His career ERA of 3.98 along with 61-56 win-loss, 739 strike-outs and 1.33 WHIP also makes him a good role player in the roster.
Dickey, who has also played for Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins, is a great player.
His presence always makes things competitive for all the opposing players. Since he has been playing in the Major League, he won many games wherever he played.
Now speculations are rising that he will be traded soon, tells a clear aspect of Mets’ deteriorating financial stability.
Experts say that if this trade does happen, R.A. Dickey will be joining one of the leading Major League teams.
