New York Mets’ current performance as opposed to the preseason – MLB Feature

Subdued in confidence and struggling with financial crisis, the New York Mets kicked off the season. With their owner being summoned to court and exchequer emptied, only window shopping was done in the off-season. Despite the fact the appetite was there,
management was left longing for players. Hands tied, the General Manager let off every option he could find worth adding on to the roster.
Spring Training was poor and revealed not even an iota of what the Mets are going to be. It was kind of demoralising for the sight and one wonders how the Mets find confidence once the horrors of Spring Training had resided in their mind.
How they can piece themselves together and become a formidable force when doing so actually demanded sweeping changes in the roster is surprising to say the least.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis was brought in to the Majors and there were celebrations all around. While leading off, he swung beautifully and loaded the bases. What other clubs have not drawn from their most expensive players, the Mets have achieved so cheaply from
him. Perhaps, while others had money, nature felt pity on the Mets and favoured them unduly.
David Wright is on a rampage. He is a great player but managing more than a .400 batting average consistently is unprecedented. It takes him above the rest of the hitters in the National League. Every player sent to the ballpark has exceeded expectations
for the Mets.
On a lighter note, there has panned out something peculiar about the Mets in the season.
There are narrow strips on which the Mets are living. Just like those spaces in universe where temperature inhibits life and permits it only at tiny areas, the Mets are extremely vulnerable and yet they are surviving successfully.
Their pitching department is mediocre and cannot warrant them to hope high. Yet it has challenged hitters in the season and pulled off stunning victories for the club.
Furthermore, as if an innocuous child teasing into an armpit and hiding off as one grows conscious, their reliever Frank Francisco will hardly be a threat before finishing off with scoreless inning and recording the save.
Similarly, while R.A. Dickey has been just as good as his career record suggests, Jon Niese exhibited a different flavour. Despite being prone to big hits, he escaped danger miraculously.
When the opposition puts their hands off the game and waits for winning moments, the Mets launch an attack from nowhere. Using up their whole artillery all at once, they destroy even the lengthiest of the leads. Every time there is a sixth or seventh inning
and the Mets are trailing by four to five runs, it seems all the planning which the club made is executed in the most precise manner at this time.
Lucas Duda homers and sends a stream of base-runners across home plate. If he misses out, Daniel Murphy steps on the plate and make sure he exhausts his expertise until he has taken the Mets home.
David Wright has been a linchpin in the line-up. Where all others have failed, he will break away from the herd and fascinate the spectators with his legendary display. Just like a tiger revolving around a field and interfering only at the sight of danger,
he is the anchor through the innings.
An excellent performance in the season however does not mean they have worked out their bugs and flaws completely. Their weaknesses can turn up any time and reflect on their results. Therefore, one should wait more before hurling any decisive judgment about
the Mets.
