New York Mets defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 – MLB Recap
The New York Mets defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 on Saturday at Citi Field, New York, New York in the second game of their three-match encounter in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The series is now levelled 1-all.
Starter Johan Santana proved valuable for the Mets and gave his team a balanced victory over the strong Diamondbacks. With this win the New York Mets ended their four-game losing streak and regained the confidence not over mighty Diamondbacks, but against their biggest rivals.
Santana’s current 1-2 record further improved as he allowed only nine hits, three runs, five strikeouts and one walk giving his team a tremendous win which were in deep trouble after losing four recent games.
"It's always good to get that first one out of the way, I stayed with it and I was able to get the out when I needed it.” Santana said.
Behind the plate, Mets catcher Mike Nickeas said for his teammate Santana and on his balanced performance during the entire game, "I wouldn't say he had his most outstanding stuff, later in the game he actually got better. I know it's been a long time for Johan. He's been throwing the ball really well -- probably should have had a couple of wins already by now, I'm happy to be a part of the offense that got him the first W of the year. Hopefully many more to come."
At start of the game, the Diamondbacks looked in good touch and took the early lead in the very first innings, but the Mets bounced back with sheer thrust and rattled their opponents in the fourth.
The Mets not only took three-run clear lead in the fourth innings, but they also never allowed any loop holes in their pitching which might have helped the Diamondbacks in the fifth where they did able to add two further runs.
However, eventually the Mets remained dominant throughout next four innings and came out victorious in the end.
In the meanwhile, the Mets are now looking in great shape to win the series as well. The last game of their three-match encounter is on Sunday, May 6.
