New York Mets defeat Atlanta Braves 11-7 – MLB Update
The New York Mets bounced back on Saturday, August 6 and defeated the Atlanta Braves by 11-7 at Citi Field.
Losing the first game by 4-1, the Mets displayed a wonderful show to prevail over their rivals.
The victory would not have come had it not been for the Justin Turner’s two homers that he hit in the game, stealing an emphatic win for the New York Mets. "I'm sure most of the people watching the game were like 'Here we go again,'" he said.
For the Braves’ manager, if there was anything to blame for the loss, it was probably the embarrassingly weak pitching. "It's like everyone says, pitching wins ballgames," Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Tonight we had a slow-pitch softball game --
we don't win those very often."
Although Jonathon Niese was simply impeccable, the Braves were somehow able to score seven runs. "He was at 90-some pitches, I didn't want to take the chance," Mets’ manager Terry Collins said. "I thought our bullpen could come in there and we could mix
and match."
Saturday’s game began with a scoreless first inning that Jonathon Niese threw. Far from being hit, Niese tossed pitches with different variation that rendered the Braves’ hitters unable to execute them to perfection.
Justin Turner had his first homer of the game and then David Wright scored a single to give an early lead to the Mets against the Tommy Hanson of the Braves. For Jonathon Niese, it was easy to keep the 2-0 lead intact.
It was at the top of third inning that Niese could not hold back the Braves’ hitters who opened their bats and scored five runs in the 5-hit third inning. Freddie Freeman snapped in a single, Chipper Jones hit an RBI single and David Rose was able to hit
a two-run RBI to take the lead to 4-2, following whom Jose Constanza got another single in the inning to make it 5-2 for the Braves.
Jason Bay, however, hit a two-run homer to bring the Mets close to the Braves and Justin Tuner had the second homer of the game after Josh Thole homered in the fourth inning, giving the team a 7-5 lead by the end of the fourth inning.
Alex Gonzalez got a single in the seventh to take the Braves lead to 7-6 only to see the New York Mets’ Scott Hairston, Jose Reyes and Justin Tuner scoring a single each for the team to have a 10-6 lead by the end of the seventh inning.
Jason Bay made it 11-6 in the eighth inning against Scott Proctor, while Manny Acosta allowed only a run in the ninth inning to Dan Uggla to wrap up the game with an 11-7 victory for the New York Mets.
