New York Mets defeat St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 – MLB Spring Training

New York Mets defeated St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 at the Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida on Monday, March 26 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Mets’ third baseman David Wright made the most of on hand opportunities in his first Spring Training game, going 1 for 2. He also made two nice plays at third base to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the game. Wright missed the first three weeks
of Spring Training due to strained left abdominal muscle. He will be looking to get his fitness back before the Opening Day.
"I'm happy with how I feel," Wright said in a post game interview. "I just have to get back into the swing of things now."
"I just got a good pitch to hit in a good count and found a hole," Wright further added. "I don't think that's an indication of my timing. I'm going to need more work on that."
Mets’ Manager Terry Collins wants Wright to rest from Tuesday’s game against Atlanta Braves.
"We're going to give him tomorrow just to catch his breath, and then he's going to go probably two or three in a row," Collins said. "One of those might be a minor league assignment, where he goes down and gets some at bats."
The Mets will be extremely happy with their performance against 2011 World Series champions. Showing great composure and determination, the Mets outplayed their opponents in almost all departments of the game. Securing a win over one of the strongest teams
in Major League Baseball, the Mets improved their spring win-loss record to 6-14.
Although the Mets have not been able to live up to their fans’ expectations this spring, they will be very pleased with the way they dictated terms in their clash against the Cardinals. Mets’ last World Series triumph was recorded in 1986. Winner of 2006
American League East Division title, Mets will be hoping to bounce back from their poor spring performances to make it to the World Series finals this season.
