New York Mets’ demand too high for trading R.A Dickey-MLB Update
As per the sources, the New York Mets are asking too much in order to agree on a trade deal involving R.A Dickey from the interested organisations. Due to their inflexibility, the trade is taking so much time to happen.
The Mets are under talks for the last many weeks with various teams. They have a trade off of either retaining Dickey through contract extension or sending him to some other club in return for prospects.
So far, they are unable to make a concrete decision and announce the real motive of the team.
For one day, the news arises that the new contract between the Mets and Dickey is about to be finalised. However, such a report disappears as soon as the trade rumours emerge.
As a result, the fans are confused about where their 2012 season Cy Young Award winner is going to end up next year.
Dickey was the most successful pitcher in the National League during the last season.
He single-handedly took his mediocre team to a respectable position on the table in the first half of the season. He won matches for the club when the rest of the teammates were experiencing the worst decline of their careers.
Rightly so, his extra ordinary campaign was acknowledged in the form of awards that he clinched after the conclusion of the season.
The reason why Dickey has failed to earn the desired contract extension from the Mets thus far is his age and the fear of some of the experts inside the team that he may be unable to sustain his current excellence.
The club’s officials are reluctant to grant him something around $26 million for two years.
For the same reason, they are ready to trade him in case they find a club, which is willing to give of their top prospects in exchange for Dickey.
The Mets have a couple of spots vacant in the outfield, especially after the exclusion of Jason Bay from their roster. If the trade of Dickey can ensure them some regular outfielders, they will be fairly pleased.
It will be interesting to see what eventually the Mets decide about Dickey and how they settle on a trade agreement if the contract renewal talks fail.
