New York Mets face 3-8 defeat against New York Yankees in Spring Training - MLB Update

New York Mets experience a 3-8 defeat against New York Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida as their reliever Angel Cuan gives up four runs in their Grapefruit League clash on April 4, 2012.
Yankees rebounded quickly from the last 6-7 defeat against the same opposition in an emphatic fashion. While they were trailing two runs at the end of three, they embraced rampage in the bottom of eight by adding five runs.
One of the consistent performers throughout Spring Training, Ike Davis, stood tall for Mets amidst the rest of their offense giving in on quality pitches by the Yankees. While hitting his fourth Spring Training homer in the game, he contributed three RBIs
in two at-bats.
Third baseman, David Wright completed one run and faced one at-bat for the Mets. Daniel Murphy, second baseman, experienced two at-bats and connected two hits.
Mets’ starter Dillon Gee had a tremendous time on the mound and though he was way short of giving his side a victory, he struck-out five in five innings and walked only one.
Yankees’ rotation will strengthen immensely with the coming of Andy Pettitte. As he threw one inning, he remained scoreless. He is likely to join the Yankees in May during the regular season.
"It felt good to be able to get out there and get the inning in, especially in a big league game," Pettitte said. "It definitely felt a little weird, there's no doubt about it. Once I got out there, it was just like you never left. It was fun."
Pettitte left the 2010 season with an amazing win-loss record of 11-3. Even more impressive is his career ERA of 3.88 and 2251 strike-outs. In light of this, his coming out of retirement will help the Yankees in many ways during the season.
"It was good to see him get on the hill," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi. "I thought he was all right. I hope that everything goes according to plan, and look at five or six starts to build him up."
Mets are streamlining their financial resources and for this they are resorting to various measures. Signing of a five year contract extension with Jon Niese is one of the outcomes. Whether these steps are for short term results or they cater long-term perspective
of management will be known in days ahead.
