New York Mets fall to Colorado Rockies 2-5 as Ramon Ramirez gives up two runs - MLB Update
The starting pitcher Matt Harvey’s nine strike-outs in the game fail to save the New York Mets from losing to the Colorado Rockies 2-5 at Citi Field, New York on August 22, 2012 in the third game of the four match series.
Harvey gave up just one run in six innings and allowed three hits. For as long as he stayed on the mound the Rockies were not permitted to put sufficient number of runs on the scoreboard. However, once the relievers came Colorado jumped on the opportunity
that the poor throws by them provided and posted enough runs to win the game easily.
Ramon Ramirez replaced Harvey. Far from continuing the impressive spell by Harvey until then, he yielded two hits and two runs. As a result, he let the Rockies substantiate their lead and make it extremely difficult for the Mets to bounce back.
Furthermore, Frank Francisco carried out the closing job for the Mets. He was unimpressive on Wednesday as he leaked two runs in one inning. He was extremely frustrated after the match as it was one of the few games in which he gave up runs.
Meanwhile, Mets’ manager Terry Collins endorses the credentials that Harvey showed in the game. Harvey escaped those situations in which he was about to be roughed up and the way he maintained his control was tremendous. Collins showers praise on Harvey
and believes that the way he understands instructions and applies them precisely during the game is impressive.
"Extremely impressed tonight with the way he handled himself, pitching out of trouble, electric stuff again," Collins said. "He asks all the right questions. He pays attention. He's the first guy on the bench before the game starts. He's there throughout
the game. He listens. He wants to learn.”
However, Harvey is not fully satisfied despite putting up splendid performance on the mound on Wednesday and feels that there is a room for improvement.
"I feel like there's more that I could've done and more I could've helped the team with -- like going eight innings and not giving up a run would've been nice," Harvey said.
The Mets cannot afford to keep losing games. They will be looking to fix issues with their bullpen and make sure their relief pitchers throw scoreless innings in the upcoming games.
