New York Mets go below .500 winning percentage for the first time - MLB Update
As indications about a possible second half of the season collapse by the New York Mets are rife, below .500 winning percentage that they see now on their Division table can confirm this. The decline in the percentage takes effect after their defeat against
the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It is for the first time that the Mets have posted such a dismal percentage on the table. They have been looking mediocre in all the games that they have played since the All-Star break.
Their offence is experiencing a slump at the moment. Other than David Wright and Ike Davis, most of their batters are struggling against the quality pitches.
In the meantime, the poor performances by their relief pitchers have come as a last nail in the coffin.
In some of the games, Mets were all set for turning out victorious. However, thanks to the relief pitchers that came late in the innings, they were unable to win even those matches.
To add to the worries, injuries to their starters Dillon Gee and Johan Santana have emerged. Both of them are lurking on the disabled list now as it seems that their rotation has weakened.
Mets’ manager Terry Collins appears heartbroken after he has seen the team’s winning percentage falling after the defeat against the Dodgers. Far from growing complacent, he confesses that they have not lived up to the requirements of being victorious.
He is extremely disappointed with the way reality is panning out for the club.
“I’m not going to blame the umpire. We had a chance to win it before then,” said manager Terry Collins. “We’re not happy with the way things have gone the last 10 days. So we’ve got to buckle down, get after it and get back over it.”
Meanwhile, New York’s first baseman Davis believes that they have just been unable to hold on in the situations when they were close to winning games.
“We’ve been in every game but just fallen short,” said Ike Davis.
The Mets are currently taking on the Washington Nationals. They will be looking to reverse the decline and increase the winning percentage by clinching a series victory against them.
