New York Mets go past Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5 as David Wright stands out - MLB Update
Third baseman David Wright stands out as he takes New York Mets to a 6-5 victory against Pittsburgh Pirates at Citi Field, New York on September 27, 2012 in the last match of the four game series.
Wright’s blast in the fifth inning strengthened Mets’ hold on the game. Before the fifth inning, they were trailing by one run and silence from their offence thereafter could have turned the outcome of the game against them.
In the last few games, Mets have seen Wright making the bulk of the offensive contributions. In-fact thanks to him the dismal slump they experience right now has begun reversing.
If he can continue lifting the team’s offence in a similar fashion, he can help the Mets end the season on a positive note.
Apart from the offence, Mets’ starter R.A. Dickey was also impressive. He struck-out 13 in little more than seven innings and gave up three runs. He earned his 20th win on Thursday.
Reliever Jon Rauch however was subpar in less than one inning as he allowed the opposition to come close in clinching the victory before he was scratched and replaced.
Win has put Dickey in an ideal position to claim the Cy Young Award this year.
He once again employed his knucklers to beat the batters and made it hard for them to strike hits. The best part of his outing was the number of strike-outs he drew in the game.
"Growing up, you just want to compete. And once you have the weaponry to compete, you want to be really good," Dickey said. "And then when you're really good, you want to be supernaturally good. And I think for me there's been this steady kind of metamorphosis
from just surviving to being a craftsman. Ultimately the hope is to be an artist with what you do."
Unlike their performance in the most part of the second half of the season, Mets have been incredible in this series.
They experienced a lot of positives in it.
Their renewed confidence can help them win upcoming matches. It will be interesting to see how they capitalise on their current momentum and play in the games ahead.
