New York Mets hammer Los Angeles Dodgers 9-0 – MLB Recap
The New York Mets hammered the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-0 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Friday, June 29 at Dodger Stadium in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
R.A. Dickey showed his true class as he pitched eight scoreless innings and earned a great victory for the Mets.
Mets also needed that victory as they recently snapped a four game losing streak.
"I think every little boy imagines playing in an All-Star game. So in that regard, it would be a real honor, obviously, But more than that, I think it would give a real legitimacy to what I do as a knuckleball pitcher. I think there are camps of people out there who don't view it as a very legitimate thing.” Dickey said later in the game and explained in detail about the level of effort he has put on his particular outing.
Dickey added, "I'm certainly thankful for the people who have come before me and done what I've done, because it's allowed me to have the foundation to build off of to become who I am presently,"
Dickey’s ERA was also consistent at 2.15 as he struck-out ten opposing batters and received only three hits.
Not only the pitchers, the Mets' batting line-up also contributed well in their team’s great win.
Centre-fielder Andres Torres added one run on his five at-bats and gave some early thrust.
Short-stop Ruben Tejada also played well with his two runs and four hits along with one RBI on his five at-bats.
Daniel Murphy with his five RBIs, two hits and one run also did well for the Mets’ back-to-back wins.
On the other hand, the Dodgers’ played poorly. Overall their pitchers displayed a typical defensive game which proved disastrous for them.
Starter Aaron Harang allowed five runs on seven hits. He also gave four earned runs and struck-out only three hitters while his ERA rose to 3.97.
Shawn Tolleson pitched 1.1 innings as he finished with four runs on five hits. He also gave three earned runs along with a homer as his ERA rose to 7.71.
