New York Mets hand Washington Nationals a 7-6 win at Nationals Park – MLB Update
Elvin Ramirez falls to twelfth inning pressure and gives up two runs as the New York Mets hand the Washington Nationals a 7-6 win, on June 5, 2012, in the first game of the three match series at Nationals Park, Washington, D.C.
In a breathtaking finish, Bryce Harper draws a timely single and takes the Nationals ahead.
The Nationals began slowly. A quiet start initiated progress in the sixth. Though, for most part the Nationals remained subdued while the Mets showed dominance, as an eventual tie was managed.
In the tenth, the Mets powered to one run lead and thus a wait for the reliever throwing a scoreless inning kicked off.
However, that wait met a boisterous gloom when the Nationals tied again. Culmination of the play came in 12th, when the Mets managed lead at the top of the inning before being surpassed and run over.
Jordan Zimmermann started for the Nationals. In six innings, he struck-out five and gave up two runs. Relief pitcher Ross Detwiler pitched last two innings. With four strike-outs, he ended up grabbing the winning status.
Chris Young had his first outing as starter after the injury. Unable to retire as many batters as he will have liked, he struck-out two in five innings and conceded three runs.
Before the game, Young’s ageing arms and a possible decline in power was under the scanner. It was feared, his effectiveness may not have remained intact. With a relatively unimpressive performance on Tuesday, he will look to come out improved in the next
start.
A sensation- packed game despite concluding as a defeat for the Mets did not cause any concerns for the manager Terry Collins. Happy the way the club showed resilience, Collins hopes to build on the momentum and looks forward to converting it into wins.

"The toughest part is the way we fought back," Collins said. "You're down three. We fight back. We get the lead. We lose the lead, get the lead, lose the lead, we get the lead and then we lose the game. That's very tough. The guys played very well."
The Nationals experienced one of their most splendid victories during the regular season.
Their bounce back at a time when they were heading to defeat was an epic display of dominance. They will be looking to continue their hegemony in the National League East Division.
