New York Mets have vision to succeed without R.A Dickey, says David Wright-MLB Update
Third baseman for the New York Mets, David Wright is confident that the club will not lose competitiveness after the absence of R.A Dickey from their team.
He has tried to discard the impression that the Mets’ chances for success in the upcoming season have ended.
Wright pins high hopes on the prospects that have been acquired by the Mets in the recent trade deal involving Dickey.
He believes two catchers and a pitching prospect are future stars of the organisation and that in real terms the club has benefited from the agreement.
Wright is of the view that instead of looking at just one aspect of the deal, the fans should be satisfied with the quality that has come to the club as a result of the trade of Dickey.
Indeed, the all-star third baseman has admitted the role of Dickey in helping the Mets win a great number of games during the last season.
However, to him that does not mean the club did not consider long term development of the team while carrying out the trade.
Wright has revealed another interesting information about Dickey.
He has claimed that he knew Dickey will most probably be sent to some other organisation when he signed his contract extension with the Mets.
He was aware of the fact that the Mets are not financially strong enough to meet the asking price of Dickey.
The face of the franchise has further stated that Dickey is extremely pleased with his new organisation.
"I think it was important for us to get a little bit younger. I think it actually kind of works out well for both sides. You have Toronto, obviously, with their situation, and us with our vision. I spoke to R.A. earlier this morning, and he seems to be happy.
The players we've gotten back, I've gotten a chance to speak to them. They're excited. And I think it fills needs for both sides," Wright said.
Regardless of the optimism of Wright, one thing is for sure that the Mets have reduced the probability of an improvement from their last season record during 2013 by losing Dickey.
