New York Mets hire former Jays General Manager, J.P. Ricciardi
The New York Mets announced recently that they hired a special assistant to the General Manager earlier today. The news comes shortly after the enforcement of Sandy Alderson on the General Manager throne.
Former Toronto Blue Jays G.M. John Paul Ricciardi, will now put Sandy on the top management position and many will help the two top men to look in the right direction when the key decisions will need to be made during the coming weeks.
Ricciardi served as the Blue Jays General Manager and Senior Vice president of Baseball Operations during the time between November 14th, 2001 and 2009. He will be helpful for the side that has been facing a negative chant throughout the last
season.
The board of directors will hope Alderson gets the ball club through to a better ranking in the National League East standings. During the regular season in 2010, Mets carried a weak, .488 winning ratio. One can assume that John Paul’s inclusion in the upper
tier of the management hub will bring prosperity to the side and uplift a bad status in Major League Baseball.
The New York side will have a lot to contend for, next season and to start the league off with a decent edge there will have to be an inflow of new players. Free agents are expected to fill the market after Sunday and many club supporters will hope the Mets
can sign a veteran pitcher or hitter, who could influence the roster in a positive way.
Ricciardi worked for ESPN this season and after signing on with the Mets he shared a few words by saying, “I couldn’t be more excited about being reunited with Sandy. We enjoyed tremendous success together in Oakland and it’s my goal to help duplicate that
here with the Mets. As a former Met farm hand, it’s a double homecoming for me”.
Alderson came out to show his support for his new companion and said, “J.P. brings a wealth of knowledge and a breadth of experience to the organization. I worked with him for over a decade in Oakland and I know firsthand he’s a superb talent evaluator.
He’ll be a tremendous resource in a variety of areas”.
