New York Mets humiliate Texas Rangers 14-5 – MLB Update
Lucas Duda hit a record three doubles to help New York Mets comprehensively beat the Texas Rangers 14-5 at Rangers Ballpark on Saturday, June 25.
The game was dominated by the Mets’ offence as the Rangers failed to grapple with the nerve-wrecking challenge.
"You build confidence off of it, maybe knowing that you can play with these guys on a daily basis," said Duda before starting Saturday at first base. Duda certainly proved a headache for the Rangers’ starter and relief pitchers.
Jonathon Niese pitched six strong innings to contain the Rangers, emboldened by the animated Mets’ offence. "I was breathing heavy. I tried to step back. I just couldn't catch my breath," Niese said. "In this heat, you have to be cautious."
The Mets started their running campaign with Carlos Beltran’s two-run homer followed by Daniel Murphy’s single, giving the Mets an early 3-0 lead in the very first inning. Niese then pitched a scoreless inning to build pressure on the Rangers.
Duda had his contribution in the third, with a two-run homer first following which Josh Thole scored an RBI, taking the lead to 6-0.
In a game that was predominated by the massive hits of the Mets’ offence, as Beltran had three hits, Duda went for no less than four. Josh Thole, Reyes, and Harris each had a couple of hits, as Pagan and Pridle took the number to 17.
The flow of runs came in the sixth inning that witnessed the Mets offence go for seven hits and eight runs that followed. Willie Harris, Carlos Beltran, Daniel Murphy and Ruben Tejada scored a single each coupled with the two-run homers of Duda and Thole,
giving a 14-2 lead to the Mets.
Duda was the Minor League Player of the Year in 2010 and was praised for his performance in the game. "Anytime you start swinging good at this level, you start building confidence," manager Terry Collins said. "This guy has a chance to be a really good hitter."
The Rangers had a total of 11 hits in the game, having a two-run homer by Michael Young and an RBI by Adrian Beltre, Cruz and Daniel Murphy. Ogando pitched three innings to give up eight hits and allowing six runs, with Bush’s two innings that saw five hits
and four runs. Kirkman allowed four runs in this four innings.
After D.J. Carrasco pitched a shutout 9th inning, the Mets won the game by 14-5 to not only level the series but also announce their return. The Mets put on a brilliant display of batting to completely humiliate the Rangers. Texas was unable to
get their offence to get going and struggled throughout the game.
