New York Mets look to clinch deals with R.A. Dickey and David Wight as they conclude season-MLB
End of the season gives way to speculations as to whether New York Mets offer David Wright a contract extension and agree to a deal with R.A. Dickey.
General Manager Sandy Alderson has an important task to accomplish in the offseason.
Given the fact that financial resources of the Mets are limited, it will not be easy for him to conclude the deals to the satisfaction of these two players.
Wright earlier revealed that he wants to stay in the same organisation for years to come.
In-fact he aims at earning a deal which ensures that he retires with the same team with which he agrees to a new contract.
Wright will be a free agent if the Mets let him off and do not offer the third-baseman a kind of contract that he is looking forward to.
Similarly, Dickey awaits the declaration from the organisation regarding his fate in the club for the upcoming years. The fact he has been extremely successful throughout this season will put the Mets’ officials in a great dilemma once they deliberate about
whether he should be retained or not.
Both Dickey and Wright have been the only two players that have contributed consistently. In some occasions they lifted the Mets to wins single-handedly.
Without these two players, the Mets’ club-house will be devoid of their most experienced campaigners.
Alderson maintains that he likes to see Dickey and Wright playing for the team in the upcoming years.
“If you had the uncertainty that existed last spring, it would be difficult to make those long-term commitments,” Alderson said. “So I think that’s a fundamental shift.”
Even the fact the Mets are not strong financially has not stopped the GM from claiming that inking new agreements with them is highly possible.
“We are going to make every effort to retain those two guys,” Alderson said. “I think we are in a position to be able to do that. Whether we are successful or not, time will tell. But we’re in a position to make a bona fide effort to do it.”
The fans will be extremely anxious as they will like to see their star players return to the Mets’ line-up with renewed contracts for the next season.
