New York Mets looking to clinch deals with R.A Dickey and David Wright early, claim sources - MLB
Sources close to the team claim that the New York Mets may complete clinching deals with R.A. Dickey and David Wright earlier than the beginning of the World Series. Their General Manager Sandy Alderson stated that the contract extensions of Dickey and Wright
will be given final touch soon.
He appears to be ready to ink new contracts with them and keep them as part of the team for the years to come. Despite the fact that the Mets suffer financial limitations, GM seems confident that the organisation will ensure them reasonable enough money
that they relinquish the idea of invoking free agency.
Both Wright and Dickey want to stay in the organisation but at the same time they have not ruled out the possibility of testing free agency.
Wright has turned out to be a top performer for the Mets in the season. He has been the only batter who helped the team produce runs consistently. As his contract with the club nears its conclusion, he will be setting high expectations for the future and
will be looking to bag a million dollar deal.
Similarly Dickey led the pitching department of the club in the season.
The great number of wins that he managed in the season has made him a strong contender for winning the Cy Young Award.
He will be fancying the reflection of his performance in the new contract that he is going to earn from the Mets. However, his surgery which will be conducted on October 18 has reduced his chances of fetching an extravagant deal from the club. Surgery will
be concerning for the Mets as it can result into a decline in his performance as a pitcher.
In light of this, the Mets may offer him the deal which entails a fewer amount of money than they will pay Dickey otherwise.
It can be expected that within few weeks announcement regarding their contracts with the Mets is made. The Mets will not like to prolong the negotiations because doing so may encourage both these players to start thinking about free agency. This will also
affect the Mets preparations for upcoming seasons.
It will be interesting to see as to how much money Dickey and Wright get in the new contracts and for how many years they sign for staying in the organisation.
