New York Mets lose 4-5 to New York Yankees as in-field defence lets them down – MLB Update

Relief pitcher Jon Rauch gives up the winning run as he costs the New York Mets 4-5 defeat against the New York Yankees in the third game of the three match series at Yankee Stadium, New York, NY on June 10, 2012.
Poor defence lets the Mets down.
All set to disallow the Yankees the sweep, the Mets got off to a commanding lead in second. While they successfully protected it for greater part of the game, during penultimate innings, everything went haywire.
In-field became the place of their demise. Unable to make plays, fielders opened excellent opportunity for the Yankees to bounce back, which they did and slammed series-sweep as a result.
Last three innings witnessed the Mets getting tormented. Victory which looked nearly certain to them right from the beginning was snatched.
On the whole, they can be fairly pleased with the way their starter Jon Niese threw seven innings. He allowed seven hits in the game and did not give up any earned run, while striking-out six.
However, reliever who followed Niese proved disastrous. He leaked two runs and helped the Yankees in bridging deficit.
The Yankees have tested the Mets thoroughly in the series. Areas which the Mets found themselves good at earlier in the season were hopelessly exposed. Playing against quality opposition has come with lots of lessons for players.
In the opening game of the series, starter Johan Santana was roughed up, making their ace look mediocre on the mound. Similarly, third baseman David Wright has been handicapped by quality throws in almost every game.
Therefore, conclusion of the series will render humbling effect on the Mets. It will disillusion them about their loopholes as a team.
Andy Pettitte performed starting job for the Yankees. He struck-out eight and conceded three runs in six innings.
Both Andres Torres and Kirk Nieuwenhuis went hitless for the Mets.
Left fielder, Jason Bay, who was brought up the order in the game, also failed to connect any hit.
Mets’ manager Terry Collins will be unsettled at the moment on witnessing the side getting hammered by such an overwhelming sweep.
Rising losing streak is concern for the club. They will look to put up better performance next time and get rid of the jinx as soon as possible.
