New York Mets lose to Chicago Cubs 1-6 – MLB Recap
The New York Mets lost to Chicago Cubs 1-6 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, June 25 at Wrigley Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Mets played poorly and could not manage to control the Cubs’ offence which proved decisive for them in the end.
Chicago Cubs’, who were coming with a four-game losing skid, played well against the Mets and proved their valour with a big win.
Travis Wood and Joe Mather provided the much needed batting and pitching prowess as their team led past the Mets with enormous confidence.
“I had it in high school, it's always been a favourite number of mine, I always see the highlight of Roberto Clemente running around. I see the 21 on his back and I like that. I always wanted myself to look like that." Mather said.
Later Cubs’ manager Dale Sveum said, "The life on his fastball was about as good as we've all seen it, He was beating guys that are good fastball hitters. He was beating them all night."
The Cubs’ batters certainly went after the Mets’ starter Johan Santana who could not play well and received five hits and two runs. He also received two earned runs and struck-out six batters as his ERA rose to 3.00.
“That's the thing about baseball you always have to execute and do the little things, The little things make the difference and that made the difference tonight.” Johan Santana said with confidence and told the media about the poor performance of his team
as well as his own bad pitching.
On Monday, real difference was made by Travis Wood’s pitching. He went scoreless in seven innings spell and received only five hits. He also struck-out six hitters and maintained his 3.54 ERA.
The Cubs’ with this win improved little in the National League Central. They are currently at the bottom with a meagre 26-48 win-loss record along with .351 winning percentage but if they continued their winning run in place, more wins will come and their
position will improve in their Division. The Mets will be looking to regroup and put in a better performance to become more competitive.
