New York Mets lose to Houston Astros 1-3 – MLB Recap
The New York Mets lost to Houston Astros 1-3 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, August 24 at Citi Field in New York.
Mets played poorly from the start of the game and lost in the end. Their entire roster played under pressure and could not save the game against the mighty offence of the Astros who proved their valour with great authority.
Jonathon Niese pitched seven solid innings and allowed three runs and six hits. He struck-out five and received one homer on his 3.51 ERA.
He could have pitched well but overall he tossed slightly way-ward and lost the game for the Mets.
Other than Niese, all the Mets’ pitchers stood tall against the Astros batters and did not receive any run.
However, it was still not enough for the Mets to ease past the Astros who played aggressive throughout the game.
Houston took early lead in the second inning and later strengthened it in the following innings while their pitchers held the Mets’ batting offence with great force.
Astros extraordinary defence proved wonderful for them as they rattled their opponents comprehensively.
"It's a humbling experience and what you've got to do is fight through it, We had the guys in there we felt was the team to get it done tonight and it doesn't seem like it's the right lineup any night," Manager Terry Collins said on his team’s overall match winning performance and explained to the media with great detail.
Astros’ starting pitcher Jordan Lyles pitched well for his team as he tossed six solid innings and allowed only one run and three hits. He struck-out four and maintained his 5.47 ERA.
"I'm proud that I've been as consistent as I'd like to think that I've been, I never thought I'd hit 200 home runs in the big leagues,” Reliever Wesley Wright said regarding his performance which also proved one of the winning factors for the Astros.
Wright also played well and supported his team-mate and starting pitcher Lyles well with his one inning spell as he maintained 3.15 ERA with complete precision.
